Nah! A Sci-Fi opera/Space Opera is a subgenre that focuses on romantic, most times melodramatic adventure. Most times the settings are in space, involving conflict between sections possessing powerful [and imho fanciful] technologies and abilities. [Gundam, Macross........in fact, Macross even has the singing a lot]. Perhaps the most significant trait of space opera is that settings, characters, battles, powers, and themes tend to be very large-scale. [The anime "Heroic Age" for example]
